Cómo ser guionista: Las pruebas de guión, ese gran timo
Muchísima gente se acerca a este y otros blogs de guión para preguntar: “Ey, ¿cómo puedo llegar a ser guionista?“. Obviamente, se refieren a “Ey, ¿cómo puedo COBRAR por escribir?”, ser guionista PROFESIONAL, porque nunca se suele preguntar “¿cómo puedo hacer para que mis historias sean más entretenidas, mejor contadas, inteligibles, etc…?”. Eso ya lo sabemos siempre, ¿verdad? Sólo necesitamos que el mundo se de cuenta. En fin…
A lo que iba: Mucha gente pregunta esto. Y se suele dar una respuesta: escribiendo. Eso para ser guionista. Pero para ser “profesional”, se suelen dar muchas otras. Entre ellas, las más habituales:
a) Ser familia del Moreno.
b) Hacer un Master que te saque los cuartos para luego ofrecerte un trabajo en su propia empresa por el que dicen que te pagan -una miseria- pero que obviamente, has pagado tú antes.
c) Preguntar en productoras si están a la búsqueda de guionistas y en ese caso, postularse entregando algún material propio.
d) Mandar un “Spec” de temática parecida a la del proyecto que esté llevando a cabo una productora.
e) Hacer unas “pruebas de guión” que ofrece una productora para optar a una plaza de guionista en su serie, programa, loquesea.
La opción a) no la recomiendo, sinceramente. La b) allá cada cual, hay gente a la que le ha servido porque ha sabido aprovechar lo bueno y “saltar” del “globo” a tiempo pero otros se habrán quedado a cuadros. La c) puede ser interesante… pero si no te conocen de trabajos previos es difícil. Y si es fácil, entonces, es sospechoso.
Así que nos quedamos con 2:
La d) es una opción más que válida, sobre todo para ficción. Un “Spec“, un “speculative script”, es un guión propio de algún capítulo de una serie que te mole, referencial. Por ejemplo, yo en su día escribí un Spec de Frasier para optar a un trabajo en una sit-com. Desarrollé una escaleta completa de capítulo, luego lo dialogué… hice como si fuera uno más dentro de la serie. Obviamente, el resultado no creo que fuera como para meterlo en el cajón de “guiones de Frasier” del productor estadounidense y que no notara la diferencia, pero oye, era bastante digno. Lo que cuenta para el que lee un Spec es que demuestres: capacidad de narrar, familiaridad con el medio, conocimiento de unos personajes y modos de actuar, talento humorístico, dramático o lo que exija ese proyecto. Y con este Spec conseguí mi primer trabajo y ya estaba dentro de la ruedecita. Así que 1 punto para el Spec.
Pero de lo que yo quería hablar era de la opción e) Las pruebas.
Las pruebas de guión suelen ser una especie de exámenes que ponen a veces compañeros guionistas que no recuerdan que, alguna vez, estuvieron al otro lado de la mesa. Son una suerte de “lotería”, aunque su intención primaria sea la de descubrir “talentos”, en la que uno debe escribir una cantidad indeterminada de páginas para demostrar a su “posible” contratante que está capacitado para hacer ESE trabajo específico TAL Y COMO lo quiere el jefe.
De entrada, no parece ser malo: demostrar que uno es apto para un puesto no es algo disparatado. Es algo casi exigible, ¿no?
El problema es cuando pides demostrarlo con métodos que rayan el abuso laboral. Digámoslo claro:
NO es justo hacer TRABAJAR a un guionista, gratis, a codo partido, dejándose la piel por conseguir un guión BRILLANTÍSIMO y ORIGINALÍSIMO simplemente para competir con otros candidatos en una especie de “guerra de talentos” para ver si, por casualidad y si ha pillado el punto JUSTO, ese día inspirado, de lo que buscaba el productor/director/jefe de guión de turno.
No es justo porque, seamos sinceros, no hay un puñetero programa ni serie en este mundo en el que no podamos trabajar enseñando material propio que de una idea del humor que tenemos, la capacidad de escritura que poseemos o cualquier cosa que se busque en esas pruebas. O que no sea demostrable con 1 o 2 páginas a lo sumo.
Las pruebas a mansalva son la solución fácil… para el contratante. E injusta para el candidato.
¿Es que esa gente que pide pruebas no se acuerda de lo jodido que es estar en casa, sin curro y devanándose los sesos pensando algo lo más original posible, gratuitamente, para optar, por favor, a un trabajo?
Entiendo que pueda haber trabajos más o menos específicos. Y dudas sobre si uno está o no capacitado para ello. Lo entiendo tanto que, miren, NO PROTESTO la puñetera cláusula que siempre nos hacen firmar de “300 millones de meses de prueba” en cada contrato. Pero amigos, si hacemos una cosa, no jodamos con la otra.
Y algunos dirán: “bueno, que por un par de hojas o 4-5 líneas de un monólogo, por ejemplo, de prueba, tampoco pasa nada”.
Ya. Miren, he sufrido muchas de esas pruebas. Afortunadamente, ya llevo varios años sin hacerlo, pero he visto pruebas de más de 11 folios para, simplemente, que en una productora catalana que recuerdo, te tuvieran en cartera, sin un proyecto específico. Pruebas en las que se te pedían, a la vez, capacidades en monólogos, monólogos con personaje ficticio inventado, escenas dialogadas de sit-com, preguntas originales con chiste para invitados, 2 sketches para un programa de humor en antena suyo y un par de noticias con remate de humor y vídeo coñero sugerido. A la vez. Salían 11-12 páginas de originalísimo contenido descacharrante y creativo, por la cara. Para un “ya veremos”.
Por no hablar de otras más flagrantes, como la que contaba Hastiado aquí y Galahan acá.
Y en estos tiempos he oído hablar de un nuevo programa que pedía como prueba toda una tanda de sketches originales en el estilo de ESE programa. Y si eran del agrado, se les pedía otra tanda más, afinada a la idea de su programa y si es así, más. Y entonces, se te decía si sí o si no.
Pueden imaginarse la cantidad de sketches originales que ha recibido esa productora (como otras que hacen igual), gratis. Uno no quiere mal pensar, porque no tienen por qué utilizar ese material luego, por supuesto, pero la verdad es que llama la atención aunque sólo sea por el abuso con el candidato al hacerle escribir tantísimo material sólo para “optar” a un trabajo.
¿Y qué hacer? ¿Negarse a este tipo de pruebas? Sería un buen paso. El de decir: “no, mira, yo tengo material, te lo enseño y decides”. O el de decir: “vale, yo te escribo esto, pero entonces, me pagas”.
A nadie se le mete en la cabeza al pensar en contratar a un albañil en casa, llamar a unos cuantos y pedirles que te hagan una pared por la gorra a ver que tal queda y si eso, ya le pedirás que haga el resto y… ya veremos a que precio (que esa es otra, cuando te piden pruebas, ni te comentan las condiciones ni el precio de la oferta). ¿Una opción? ¿Un daño mínimo asumible? Un contrato previo a la entrega de pruebas, por el que la productora se compromete a NO USAR ese material jamás, si no contrata al autor del mismo.
¿Será posible?
No sé. Sobre todo si los que hemos estado al otro lado de la mesa no nos acordamos de lo injusto que es eso.
