Roman Polanski, detenido en Suiza por la supuesta violación de una menor en 1977
Está visto que hasta que Roman Polanski no de con sus huesos en la cárcel, los Estados Unidos no van a parar en su acecho al director, aunque, que yo sepa, Suiza era uno de los países con la política exterior más neutral del mundo. Pero, efectivamente, está fuera de la UE.
Informa la prensa que Polanski, de 76 años, fue detenido ayer en Suiza, en el aeropuerto de Zúrich, donde llegó para recibir el Premio de Honor por toda su carrera que le concede el Festival de Cine de la ciudad. Lo que no dice el rotativo es si dicha detención se debe a los cargos que el director debe responder en los USA desde 1977 por violación a una menor tras el uso de drogas, perversión y sodomía, aunque la agencia EFE sí lo confirma.
Polanski se fugó de territorio americano en 1.978 cuando a los 43 años se vio involucrado en un escándalo junto a Samantha Gailey de 13 años de edad, que acusó al director de llevársela a la casa de Jack Nicholson en Mulholland Drive para fotografiarla para la revista Vogue, y que tras darle champán y metacualona, le tomó fotos en top-less y después la llevó a un jacuzzi, donde la violó.
Polanski fue condenado a un periodo de prisión provisional de 90 días en una prisión estatal para realizarle una evaluación psiquiátrica y decidir su condena final, pero le dieron un permiso de otros 90 días para terminar su proyecto pendiente. Así, el 1 de febrero de 1978 Polanski voló a Londres, y al día siguiente viajó a Francia, país en el que tenía y sigue teniendo la nacionalidad, pues de acuerdo con el tratado de extradición entre Francia y los Estados Unidos, Francia se puede negar a extraditar a sus ciudadanos.
Desde entonces vive en Francia y Polonia y evita la visita a países donde probablemente podría ser extraditado, como el Reino Unido. Steven Soderbergh produjo en 2008 el documental “Ronam Polanski: Wanted and Desired” donde pone en evidencia a las autoridades americanas.
Este es el trailer del docu en el que, entre otras cosas, queda en entredicho la imparcialidad y pericia del juez que condenó a Polanski.
“The Ghost”, su última película con Ewan McGregor y Pierce Brosnan estaba justo ahora en post-producción, y sin fecha de estreno habrá que ver que supone la detención de Polanski para el film, pero ojito, que si el director ni siquiera recogió el Oscar por “El Pianista era por algo y la temporada que le espera en la cárcel puede ser larga y dramática.
